Maarit Peräsuo - BETULA
Betula on oivaltava, materiaalien ehdoilla suunniteltu penkki, joka on saanut innoituksensa perinteisistä tuohiesineistä. Kalusteen runko on valmistettu koivusta ja sen istuinosassa on käytetty satulavyötekniikalla sidottua tuohinauhaa. Tuohi on nahan lailla käyttäytyvä materiaali ja siten joustava, luonnollinen ja mukavan tuntuinen. Penkin yksinkertaistettu muotoilu nostaa esiin tuohen kauniin pintakuvion.
Maarit Peräsuo on helsinkiläinen sisustusarkkitehti, joka opiskelee Aalto-yliopistossa Product and Spatial Design MA-ohjelmassa. Materiaalien oivaltava käyttö ja inhimillinen lähestymistapa ovat hänen suunnittelussaan tärkeitä teemoja.
Betula is a bench inspired by traditional birch bark objects. It has been designed by valuing the material and its specific possibilities. The frame of the bench is made from birch wood and the seat is woven with bands of birch bark. The bark acts similarly to leather, which makes it flexible, natural, and comfortable. The simple form of the bench emphasizes the bark’s beautiful surface pattern.
Maarit Peräsuo is an interior architect from Helsinki who is currently studying for her MA in the Product and Spatial Design programme at Aalto University. An insightful use of materials and a humane approach are important themes in her design work.
